Reine – A Moment to Remember

Landscape · Travel  ·  Reine, Lofoten  ·  Oct 30, 2026

The clouds hang low over the peaks, the air smells of salt and rain, and the bay lies almost still. Somewhere a gull calls, a small fishing boat glides out towards the open sea, and then it is quiet again. Some places stay with you long after you have left them. Reine in the Lofoten Islands is definitely one of those places.

We are standing by the bay, taking in the incredible view in front of us. The towering mountain peaks rise dramatically towards the sky, partly covered by soft, drifting clouds. Along the shoreline, the little red and yellow fishermen's cabins stand on their stilts above the water, adding that unmistakable Lofoten charm. In the bushes around us, the rowan berries are already turning red – a first sign that autumn is on its way.

I find myself just standing there, looking, taking photographs and trying to capture the feeling of being surrounded by such extraordinary nature. The calm water, the changing light and the mountains create a scene that almost feels too beautiful to be real.

For me, travelling is not just about visiting new places. It is about those quiet moments when you stop, take a deep breath and appreciate where you are – and who you are there with. Standing there, I thought about how many years I had dreamed of seeing Lofoten with my own eyes, and how easy it is to let everyday life rush past without ever stopping. Moments like this make me reach for my camera, but they also remind me to put it down for a while and simply enjoy the view.

Reine is one of those places where I wish I could have stayed a little longer. A landscape I carry with me, and one I hope to return to – maybe in winter, when the northern lights dance over the same peaks.
