Aurora Dance – Hamnøy

Night · Landscape  ·  Hamnøy, Lofoten  ·  Oct 29, 2026

Evening had arrived. It had rained all day, and as darkness fell the drops finally stopped falling. The aurora forecast was high, but the clouds had not yet fully cleared. I walked down to the jetty at Hamnøya and waited for Aurora to make her entrance.

It was nearing 22:30 when I began to sense something. A faint green shimmer appeared in the sky, like a glowing fire slowly catching. The northern lights grew in intensity and spread across the sky in sweeping strokes of green and turquoise. It was as if the whole universe was dancing before my eyes, and every movement created a new picture in the star-studded darkness.

I stood there, spellbound, taking picture after picture. The sky was magical, lit up by this unforgettable spectacle. Time lost its meaning, and for the 30 minutes the northern lights kept up their dance, everything else was forgotten.

When the glow eventually faded and the darkness of the night took over again, I packed away my camera. The sky was still now, but the memory of the northern lights would stay with me for a long time. It is evenings like these that give life a little extra magic.
